El Futuro is a non-profit agency that serves the mental health and addiction needs of Latino children and their families. 

North Carolina has recently seen a dramatic increase in the Latino population.  Over the last decade, North Carolina’s Latino population has quadrupled—a growth rate that exceeds any other state in the nation.  Despite a healthy work ethic and an overall positive impact on North Carolina, this growing population brings unique mental health needs.  Immigrating to the United States is accompanied by a host of stressors including separation from family, language and cultural barriers, racism, underemployment or unemployment, and adapting to a new way of life.  These stressors may negatively impact Latinos leading to poor mental health, including depression, substance use, and anxiety difficulties.  

El Futuro aims to address the unique mental health needs of the Latino community through three initiatives:

• Promotion of community mental health awareness
• Enhancement of existing services
• Provision of culturally competent clinical services
