Introducing the El Futuro "hands" project: | She slumped in her chair with her head down the first time she came to El Futuro. She felt sad, worried and didn't know who to trust. The obsessive thoughts and ritualistic behaviors caused her to not eat or sleep. She stayed away from friends and stopped trying at school. Her parents found help at El Futuro and now, several months later, she is smiling, attending school and laughs with her little sister. As the first participant in our "hands project", a picture of her hands (above) now is displayed in our waiting room. Others who come to El Futuro for help look at the photo and ask if they can also have a photo on the wall someday. We look forward to someday celebrating with them and envision a wall full of hands! We're especially grateful to those who have helped us get this project off the ground: Kristen Beck for volunteering her time and photography skill (see picture above!), Barbara Shumannfong, Jane Paulsen, Marissa Bergmann, Frank Konhaus, Charlie Thompson and Hope Shand. If you would like to help support the treatment of someone in the "hands" project, please contact us! |
 | Every 1 - 2 months we send out an email update on our work! You can opt out at any time, but we'd love to have you stick around. To sign up for only those emails, follow this link.

We're celebrating the "Puentes" Project! We recently made this video of our "Puentes" Project. Through the project we serve Latino youth, ages 11-14, who are under emotional stress and are not functioning in their family or at school. The project links at-risk Latino middle school students in Chatham County with caring counselors and psychiatrists to help them improve school performance and decrease involvement with risky behaviors.
