We hope you've had a great start to 2012!
At El Futuro... | We're celebrating the "Puentes" Project! We recently made this video of our "Puentes" Project. Through the project we serve Latino youth, ages 11-14, who are under emotional stress and are not functioning in their family or at school. The project links at-risk Latino middle school students in Chatham County with caring counselors and psychiatrists to help them improve school performance and decrease involvement with risky behaviors. What's next with "Puentes"? - Continued care for students identified by the school as needing help
- Jovenes Unidas group for adolescent girls
- SPARCS Group for adolescent boys
- Spring Break Parent (and children!) camp to help learn parenting skills and coach parents on navigating the waters of their child's adolescence
Our Substance Abuse Treatment Program continues to Grow! | Individuals needing help can be seen without a wait! Give one of our substance abuse counselors a call: Sarah Harden, P-LCSW, P-LCAS Adris Fortunato, CSAC (919) 688-7101 |
yes, we're open Saturdays! and, yes, we offer DWI assessments and classes!
¡Celebrations! - Kelly and Luke celebrate a girl who was referred to us from a nearby psychiatric hospital after she had been admitted for not eating, withdrawing from family and peers and having severe obsessive-compulsive thoughts and behaviors. She and her family have worked in therapy over the last 2 months and she has been taking medication to help her. Now, she "likes going to school" and smiles and giggles when she comes to our clinic.
- Reyna celebrates a lady who initially came to her very depressed and suffering from the effects of severe childhood sexual abuse. She is no longer depressed, is wearing make-up, and enjoys working in her garden. She recently told her husband about the abuse so that he can support her and the revelation transformed their relationship for the best. She just completed treatment.
- Luke and Karla celebrate a lady with small children who came to El Futuro in 2010. All of a sudden she stopped coming. When Luke contacted her, she said she was pregnant. After she had the baby, she suffered from post-partum depression and separated from her husband. She contacted him feeling very sad and scared. She began treatment again with medication and therapy with Karla. She now does not cry, seems happy and is growing in her confidence. She speaks highly of us in the community.
- Molly and Karla celebrate a family who have grown stronger. The father has been accused of abusing another child and later the accusations were dismissed. It has been hard on the whole family. Karla helped their child and Molly worked with the parents. The family all feel better with more hope.
- Birgitte celebrates a girl and mother. The girl was sexually abused and didn’t want to talk at first during therapy. Now, she talks throughout the whole session about everything in her life. She is apologizing to kids she stole from and adults she disrespected when she was so confused and upset.
- Sarah celebrates the improvement of a woman who suffers from PTSD due to a home invasion. Before the Holidays she told Sarah that she no longer piles objects in front of her door and can sleep through the night. She said that our work makes her feel safe in her home again.
- Chuck celebrates the generous donations during the months of November and December! People believe in the work we are doing!
(these are a couple of the celebrations staff shared in recent team meetings) |
